Partition definition: the part of a storage device that is separate from other segments. And with that 640GB HDD, I only have set that disk as locator to store my TimeShift backups, but locked it with TimeShift and I forgot that password/passphrase as well.Although you do not need to understand how partitions work to recover partitions, at least you have a very basic understanding of the role of partitions in allowing you to store data on storage devices, which can help you choose the best possible recovery method and avoid making potentially catastrophic mistakes. I have done nothing with the main disk, after deleting the partitions and recovering the data with DDRescue-GUI. My question is very simple and straightforward: how can I restore my files from my main disk, and/or backup disk? Then I found Testdisk and now that program is trying to read that *.img, which put out a lot of 'invalid FAT boot sector' messages. So I mounted it successfully with Disks Utility, but I did not have succes in reading that *.img-file. Next I tried to mount and read that *.img by DDRescue-GUI and unpack it on another 2TB HDD (Samsung2TB), but it was unable to mount it. After installing Mint on a 2TB HDD (WD2TB), I found DDRescue-GUI, with which I created a full 1TB *.img from my main disk.

So I went on a new journey on how to recover data. So, I deleted first my back up, forgot that and deleted also my main disk and then remembered that I already had deleted my backup.

Because just before that I had a copy of my files also on another disk (640GB HDD), but I forgot that I already had (just) deleted these files on that HDD. In order to rearrange multiple OS' (M20C, W10-64b, Ubuntu Studio), I was to eager in deleting the partition on my main 'disk', a 1TB Samsung 970 Evon Plus.
